ABOUT
Amir Barnett is a 24-year-old self-taught visual artist based in Washington, DC. His art emerges from a deep desire to examine his inner thoughts and comprehend how they influence his interactions with the world around him. He believes that energy is ever-present, neither created nor destroyed, but only transferred, and that this constant energy exchange connects all living things. Barnett uses mixed media and the present moment as tools to investigate his personal energy exchange with his surroundings, and express his emotions in visual language. His goal is to create paintings that offer insight beyond ordinary perception and bring peace, happiness, and inspiration to collectors.
Amir never envisioned art playing such a crucial role in his life. In 2020, while faced with the untimely passing of his father along with the COVID-19 pandemic, Barnett turned to art to find peace during challenging and uncertain times. Over the last 4 years, Barnett has watched his art practice blossom from passion projects to multiple gallery placements, a published coloring book, and WBJ 25 Under 25 designation. Amir's art has grown an international audience, designing multiple basketball courts in the Philippines, teaching art and creativity in Europe, and growing a network of collectors in multiple major US cities.
A Cum Laude Biological Engineering graduate of North Carolina A&T University, Amir additionally works as a Water Resources Engineer, gaining inspiration and peace from nature. He currently lives and works out of his studio in Washington, DC.
